The origin of Japanese ginger sugar
“Kuramaya Shougatō” is a beloved Izumo specialty. The second-generation head of the family, Bunzaemon Kuramaya, is the original store in Japan that succeeded in producing shougatō for the first time in 1715 (Shotoku 5).
Since the store’s founding, the shougatō has been made using only Izumo-nishi ginger grown in Hikawa-cho, Izumo City, and is made using traditional methods. The shougatō has a soft ginger flavor and a simple, nostalgic, gentle sweetness.
During the experience, you can learn about the history that has been passed down since its creation through videos and explanations, and feel the skills and traditions that have been preserved for a long time. Another attraction is that you can sample freshly made shougatō, which is only available at the main store. The freshly made shougatō, which can only be tasted here, will gently soothe your travel fatigue.
